Background: | Stunning scenery and habitats range from an underwater reserve and rugged, 7-mile coastline to rolling hills and a forest of stunted cypress and pines. Sheer cliffs overlook rocky points, quiet coves, sandy beaches, and views of harbor seals, California gray whales, and brown pelicans. Breeding pelagic cormorants gather at Stump Beach. Gerstle Cove, an underwater reserve protects tidepools and other aquatic life. A grassy terrace draws northern harriers and white-tailed kites. The forested coastal ridge shelters resident black-tailed deer, bobcats, and other mammals. |
