The Habitat: Over a hundred plant species have been identified throughout the park; the most prominent is the large valley oak. The California black walnut, Oregon ash, black cottonwood, sycamore, and willow are also plentiful. Beneath the oaks and cottonwoods along the river is a profusion of elderberry, wild grape, and wildflowers in season.

The Experience: Preserved and protected oak woodland.

Wildlife and Where to Find It: Car, trails, boat.

Viewing Tips: Birding, salmon fishing, camping in fall and spring.

Site Notes: Watch 20 to 40 lb. salmon roll in the water of the Sacramento River.(July through December) Cup your hands behind your ears and listen to the beautiful sounds of red-winged blackbirds. Watch a heron or egret silently stalk fish, frogs, and invertebrates. Observe red-tailed hawks swoop and circle as they hunt rodents. Watch and listen to warblers, woodpeckers, and other songbirds as they feed and move among cottonwoods and
willows. Search for animal tracks in the soft mud along waterways and the creek.
