Napa River Ecological Reserve - Site # 147 |
Background: | Massive valley oaks and California bay trees shade the Napa River and Conn Creeks, one of the Bay Area's best examples of an old-growth riparian woodland. While raccoons, skunks, squirrels, opossums, and even minks reside here, birds are the prime attraction. Tree cavities attract red-breasted sapsuckers, acorn and downy woodpeckers, tree and violet-green swallows, and screech, barn, and great-horned owls. The forest canopy and dense understory shelter many migrant songbirds and breeding yellow warblers, Anna's hummingbirds, evey yellow-breasted chats. Spring butterflies and wildflowers are abundant. |
