Hensley Lake - Site # 234

Background: Vista Point Recreation Area offers majestic views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the surrounding foothills. Visitors can also observe many diverse species of wildlife, including California quail, bald eagles, osprey, coyotes, bobcats, and many varieties of snakes and reptiles.
The site offers archeological features, including bedrock mortars.

The Habitat: Oak woodland Savanna (75%)
Riparian habitat (25%)

The Experience: The Vista Point Recreation Area provides an excellent opportunity to view natural oak savanna. This is important because this habitat is becoming increasingly endangered by grazing and urban sprawl. This area provides valuable habitat for a variety of wildlife and plant species.

Wildlife and Where to Find It: Overlook, cars, boating and trails. The trails around the overlook are under development.

Sight seeing - year round.
Birding - fall and winter.

How to Get There: From Fresno, CA: Take Hwy 41 North for 12 miles. Turn left(west) on HWY 145 for 8 miles. Turn right (north) on RD 33 for 0.5 mile. Turn right (northeast) on Road 400 for 7 miles, Turn left (northwest) on Road 603 for 0.5 mile. Turn right (north) on Road 407 for 0.25 mile. Turn right (east) into Park Headquarters.

From Madera, CA: From CA-Hwy 99 take the Cleveland Ave. Exit, Turn east for 2 miles, W. Cleveland Ave becomes Tozer St., Turn left (east) on E. Yosemite Road/Hwy 145 for 5.9 miles, Turn left (north) on Road 33 for 0.5 mile, Turn right (northeast) on Road 400 for 7 miles, Turn left (northwest) on Road 603 for 0.5 mile. Turn right (north) on Road 407 for 0.25 mile. Turn right (east) into Park Headquarters.
